IT Support for Construction & Engineering
Your work happens in the field, but it runs on the office. Drawings and models are huge files, estimates and bids are on a deadline, and job sites need to stay connected. On top of that, contractors pay and get paid in large amounts, which attracts fraud. That's the job of IT support for construction companies: keep the office, the field and the money moving safely.
Technology Visionaries LLC has been helping businesses with their technology since 2007, and we’ve been at 321 Main Street in Woodbridge, NJ since 2015. We’re a managed IT (information technology) services company, which simply means we take care of your computers, network and security on an ongoing basis so you don’t have to think about it.
When something goes wrong, you talk to a person. During business hours, 8 to 5, Monday to Friday, a real person answers the phone. And during those same hours, a person reviews, prioritizes and routes every ticket you send within 12 minutes. That’s a human looking at your problem and getting it to the right person, not an automatic “we got your email” reply. (To be clear, 12 minutes is how fast we look at it and get it moving, not a promise that it’s fixed by then.)
What Construction & Engineering Actually Deal With
Huge files. CAD drawings, models and plan sets are big, and slow systems waste billable hours.
Job site connections. Trailers and remote sites need reliable, safe internet and access to the office.
Bid day pressure. When a bid is due, nothing can break.
Payment fraud. Fake invoices and changed bank details from “vendors” or “subcontractors” are a real risk.
Government work rules. If you build or engineer for the Department of Defense, CMMC requirements may show up in your contracts.
How We Help
We keep the office and the field working. Ongoing care for computers, network and connections, with a real person to call.
We help big files move. Storage and sharing setups that fit how your team works.
We help protect against payment fraud. Email protection, MFA and a call-back habit for any bank detail changes.
We back up your project files. So a lost laptop or ransomware doesn’t take your drawings with it.
We help with the technical side of contract security rules. If CMMC applies to you, we help put technical controls in place and document them.
Compliance Notes
This section is a plain English overview to help you understand what the rules ask for. It isn’t legal advice. For questions about what applies to your firm, talk with your attorney. Our role is to help you meet these requirements on the technology side and document the work. The responsibility for your program stays with your firm, and we don’t promise or guarantee compliance.
Wire fraud and business email compromise
This isn’t a regulation, but it’s the risk we hear about most. The FBI calls it business email compromise: a criminal gets into, or imitates, an email account and sends convincing payment instructions. The FBI asks victims to report it right away at ic3.gov (the Internet Crime Complaint Center) and to contact their bank to try to stop the transfer. The simplest protection is a habit: confirm any new or changed payment instructions with a phone call to a number you already have, never one from the email.
CMMC and NIST SP 800-171 (for Department of Defense work)
If you make parts, do engineering or build for the Department of Defense, directly or as a subcontractor, CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) may apply to you. The program is set out at 32 CFR Part 170, and the companion DFARS (defense acquisition) rule took effect November 10, 2025. That started Phase 1, when DoD began including CMMC self-assessment requirements in applicable contracts as a condition of award. Phase 2 begins one year later, November 10, 2026, and adds third-party (C3PAO) certification for applicable contracts.
- Level 1 covers Federal Contract Information (FCI). It requires meeting 15 basic security requirements, a self-assessment every year, and an affirmation entered in SPRS (the Supplier Performance Risk System).
- Level 2 covers Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). It’s built on the security requirements in NIST SP 800-171 (the CMMC rule references Revision 2; NIST has since published Revision 3).
Which level applies depends on what kind of information your contract involves, so read your contract and ask your prime contractor or contracting officer.
New Jersey’s data breach law (N.J.S.A. 56:8-161 to 56:8-166)
New Jersey’s Identity Theft Prevention Act covers any business that does business in New Jersey, and any public entity, that keeps computerized records with personal information. If there’s a breach of New Jersey residents’ personal information, you have to tell the affected people in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay. Before you tell them, the law says you must report the breach to the New Jersey State Police. The State Police and the NJCCIC (New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell) provide an online form for that report. If you decide misuse of the information isn’t reasonably possible, the law says to document that decision in writing and keep it for five years.
Frequently Asked Questions
If we work with you, are we covered?
No one can honestly promise that, and we won't. Your contracts and the law puts the responsibility on your firm. What we can do is help you put the technical safeguards in place, like MFA, encryption and backups, and help you document how your systems are set up so your written records match reality. For the legal side, talk with your attorney.
Does CMMC apply to us?
Only if you handle Federal Contract Information or Controlled Unclassified Information on Department of Defense work, directly or as a subcontractor. Your contract and your prime contractor will tell you which level, if any, applies.
What happens if something breaks on bid day?
Call us. During business hours, 8 to 5, Monday to Friday, a real person picks up, and every ticket is reviewed, prioritized and routed by a person within 12 minutes. That's how fast we start on it, not a promise of how fast it gets fixed, but you won't be sitting in a queue wondering if anyone saw it.
Can you help connect our job site trailers?
We can help plan safe, reliable connections between job sites and the office.
Do we have to replace all our software?
Usually not. Most firms already have the right tools. What's often missing is setting them up properly, turning on protections like MFA and writing down how it all works.
Let's keep the office and the job site running.
Grab a coffee with us and walk through how your firm works today. We'll help you see the gaps and what to tackle first.
